Ayurvedic Spring Cleanse Fundraiser
HEAL, RENEW, REPLENISH
Three phase kitchari cleanse | March 22 - April 1, 2023
Welcome to the Spring Kitchari Cleanse to support Meditation Without Borders!
The proceeds from this cleanse will go towards our upcoming Meditation Without Borders projects including a partnership with La Cana, an organization that promotes the rehabilitation and reintegration of young female detainees through providing targeted job related skills-training and wellness treatment.
Why cleanse?
Our bodies accumulate toxins over the years which can lead to symptoms of brain fog, bloating, perpetual congestion, sluggish bowels and a general lack of vitality. By eating cleanly for a limited time, it gives your digestion a rest and a chance for your gut and body to heal itself.
Combine the clean, easy to digest foods with Ayurvedic dinacharya, or daily routines, like tongue scraping and oil massage, and you will quickly notice a difference in how you feel.
Cleansing can help you hit the “reset button” on your daily routine. It’s not just about losing weight, it’s also about purifying the body so you can experience more life in your life.
What is a Kitchari?
Kitchari, also spelled kitcharee, khichadi, kitchadee, and in many other variants) is a porridge-like mixture of Basmati rice and yellow moong dal (split mung beans) simmered in spices such as turmeric, cumin seeds, ginger, and black pepper. It's one of the most basic staples in Ayurveda and has a texture similar to oatmeal.
A kitchari cleanse is a gentle way of clearing accumulated waste and toxicity from the mind and the tissues, encouraging optimal health. The process is simple, straightforward, easy to follow, with the main part of the cleanse only three days long—making it a very manageable. Unlike a juice cleanse, a kitchari cleanse is nourishing and satisfying.
This particular cleanse is based on eating a monodiet of mostly kitchari, drinking plenty of detoxifying fluids, and doing some basic Ayurvedic practices like self abhyanga (oil massage) to optimize digestion, elimination, and the body’s natural detoxification processes.
The beginning of Spring is one of the best times to do a kitchari cleanse as it is when your body naturally is moving out the winter stagnation, weight gain and excess mucous packed on during the cold and dry months.
This regimen supports the physiology by slowing the flood of harmful inputs and by providing the body with an important opportunity to rest, recuperate, and repair itself.
What are the details?
The cleanse will go from March 22nd to April 1st.
We have invited a good friend and student Gabriel Begin to join us in creating this experience. Last year, we had the opportunity to do a guided cleanse like this with him as he has an extensive knowledge of Ayurveda and it was very transformative. We reached out to him, and decided to collaborate to make the best possible offering to you all this year!
By signing up, you will get support materials with recipes, cooking preparation information, ayurvedic practices, and detailed instructions. There will be three zoom support meetings, at the beginnings of each phase of the cleanse. We will also have a WhatsApp group for everyone to share questions, pictures of food, and experiences.
The cleanse will be split into three phases.
Phase 1 - the preparation phase that helps the body ease into the cleanse by eliminating certain types of foods and introducing some Ayurvedic practices
Phase 2 - the deep cleanse in which we eat a mono-diet of mostly kitchari
Phase 3 - the integration phase where we begin to reintroduce a greater variety of foods and decide which of our new practices we want to incorporate into our daily life
