DEC 3 | 6-9PM | CAMPBELL HALL, SAUSALITO, CA
Gather with us to empower young single mothers in Rwanda through a virtual meditation/yoga center and return teaching tour at the Berwa Kinunu School.
In 2025, Meditation Without Borders traveled to Rwanda to teach Vedic Meditation and “rounding” (a combo of yoga, breath-work and meditation) to the staff and students of the Berwa Kinunu School, an organization that helps single teen mothers with life and tailoring skills as well as psychosocial counseling.
In order to support the young women in their practice, Meditation Without Borders and Berwa Kinunu have a vision to create a meditation/yoga center in the Lake Kivu region of Rwanda. In addition to raising funds for a return teaching trip, we are looking to create a virtual teaching space and engage other teachers to establish a program of consistent instruction.
That’s where you come in. Help us make this vision a reality. Join us on December 3rd and enjoy an evening of... ‘

As part of our fundraiser, we will be selling handcrafted yoga bags, skirts and tote bags made by the young women at Berwa Kinunu. They are all made from Kitenge fabric which is a brightly colored and patterned cotton fabric from East Africa. You can purchase all the items at the event on Dec. 3rd, or if you have purchased a yoga bag from Metta/Cloudbreak Yoga and would like to complete payment, you can do so HERE.
About Berwa Kinunu
The Kinunu Catholic Parish has designed a program called “Berwa-Kinunu” which aims at equipping single mothers with the necessary life and technical skills and support to care for themselves and their children. Through the provision of training in tailoring, childcare, and psychosocial counseling and advocacy within the community, Berwa-Kinunu intervention is directly contributing to alleviating poverty among single mothers in the area. Since 2019, in total two hundred eighteen single mothers have received support. Currently, forty-seven single teen mothers are in the program.
About Meditation Without Borders
Meditation Without Borders is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2020 by Kristen Vandivier who had a vision that the powerful technique of Vedic Meditation could be the most effective catalyst for the unifying social change our world needs.
After completing an intensive curriculum of training under renowned Master Maharishi Vyasananda Thom Knoles, including a three-month immersion program in the Himalayas, Kristen returned to her home to found her practice in 2017. Kristen now teaches students from all over the Bay Area, California in addition to caring for her three children.

We would like to acknowledge that we are looking to teach a spiritually based practice in a continent that has been greatly harmed by colonialism and its attempted destruction of native customs and belief systems. As white women of privilege from a historically colonizing culture, we wish to make a statement that our intentions are to bring a self-sustaining, empowering practice to the women of Rwanda that will not interfere with any existing traditions. We recognize that the powerful knowledge of Vedic Meditation which originated in India, another colonized area, has spread to the West, and has pooled up in mostly white advantaged communities. Our mission is to help break the dam, and be a bridge to help this knowledge flow to all those who could benefit from
